The sex industry is banned by the government. The only legal way to operate is called “one house one prostitute†that means they only can operated by person not by company. Because it is not an industry that is easy to accept with others in eastern culture, the operator will install a colour light pipes as their signboard near the main door of the buildings. The light pipes is a media to tell other which building has red-light house. For the colour of the light pipes, it can be red or green. And it would appear most in Mong Kong, Tuen Mun, Kwun Tong, etc.
Actually I don’t know is there any similar cases in other cities, but i think every country have their different sex culture. I am interested why a colour light pipes is representing a red-light house. Maybe this is a media established by usage. Because of the eastern culture, this kind of business won’t make it public, but they still need to mark a signal to their target customers. Finally, they develop this kinds of signal to them, a media can be transmit messages to some specific targets, and others maybe not aware. By the way, how the “customers†know which flat are they?
